How to see the degree of wear of automobile brake pads

2023-10-16

There are several ways to check the degree of wear on automobile brake pads. Here are a few methods:

1. Visual inspection: Check the brake pads visually through the wheel spokes. Look for the thickness of the pad material. If the pad is less than ¼ inch thick, it needs to be replaced.

2. Listen for squeaking or grinding noises: If you hear a high-pitched squeaking or a grinding noise when you apply the brakes, it could be a sign that the brake pads are worn down and need to be replaced.

3. Check the brake pad wear indicator: Many brake pads have a small metal tab that protrudes from the pad material. When the pad wears down to a certain level, this tab will start to make contact with the rotor and produce a squealing noise. If you hear this noise, it's time to replace the brake pads.

4. Measure the thickness of the brake pad: Use a micrometer or a ruler to measure the thickness of the brake pad. If the pad is less than the manufacturer's recommended minimum thickness, it needs to be replaced.

It's important to regularly check your brake pads for wear and replace them as necessary to ensure safe driving.
